Quite arguably, what makes our furniture so spectacular is that we use the best of nature to create pieces that bring the outdoors in, with a touch of class that is one-of-a-kind. The way that we showcase our beautiful wood furniture is by using epoxy resin to tie it all together. It is the glue, literally, that binds our vision into a spectacular conversation piece for our customers. The best way for us to preserve the natural beauty of the live edge woods we use is by using an epoxy resin finish to attach our pieces together. And it also makes them sturdy and impervious to whatever life can throw at them.
We first start with hand-picked planks of the most majestic wood we can find. Then, we take our live wood edges and we remove the bark from the outside surface. Our technicians carefully chisel the bark, meticulously using a gentle hand to preserve as much of the live edge as possible. To ensure a polished and finished look, we both plane and sand the wood to make it as smooth and flawless as possible.
Creating a Resin Mold
Once we have our live edge wood pieces, we create a mold around them to create a design. Each of our tables is made with varying dimensions and shapes. We try to use the natural spirit of the wood, placing the pieces so that they play off of one another. Our goal is to showcase the beautiful nature of the individual planks of wood. And, ideally, create a formation of flow that appears to have no beginning or end.
Pouring the Epoxy Resin
Once the pieces are secured, we fill in the open areas with an epoxy resin. Epoxy resin is a material that dries hard and attaches the individual pieces together. It can be colored or clear depending on the overall design. But the key is to downplay the resin area to incorporate it as a part of the piece that is only there to highlight the outer edges of our live wood. Once the epoxy resin is poured, we sand the tabletop again to make it as seamless as possible. Our artists then continue to pour the epoxy resin in layers until it is flush with the pieces of wood. Our creators sand in between each pour, to maintain a slick appearance and to ensure that there isn’t any debris that gets trapped to ruin its exterior appearance. If we want to include a splash of color into our design, in between the pours, we will place materials in like fire glass.
We Then Allow the Resin to Cure
The epoxy resin needs to cure for a minimum of 48 hours. Once it is cured, it is extremely hard. Then it is time to create the table underside. After carefully taking the table from the mold and sanding the completion of the top, we go to work shaping the rest of the table by creating a base that fits perfectly. Once the table underside is complete, we apply a shellac finish to the top to make sure that it can’t be scratched and is durable for day to day use in homes, hotels, offices and any space that needs a touch of nature.No Two Tables We Create Are Alike
